A Catholic Chaplaincy in Abakaliki, where the Word is preached and the Sacraments are celebrated every day of the week.
Today in the Church
Friday, 16 October 2026
All are welcome at every celebration.
Confessions are heard thirty minutes before every Mass, and at any time on request.
A word of welcome
Whoever you are, and whatever has brought you here, you are welcome.
Our Chaplaincy stands beside the Abakaliki Correctional Centre, and that is no accident of geography. We are named for a priest who gave his life in another man’s place, and we try to keep that spirit: a parish that looks outward, to the people nearest to us who are most easily forgotten.
If you are new to Abakaliki, come and find us on a Sunday. If you have worshipped here for years, there is always more to do. And if you are in need, please say so — that is what we are for.

Four times a year the Chaplaincy goes into the Medium Security Custodial Centre beside us. We take food, soap, toiletries and sanitary supplies, and we stay for Mass and confessions.
The last visit reached the men and women of the Centre with rice, garri, detergent and toiletries gathered by the CWO and the CYON. Two more visits are planned this year, and the Chaplain hears confessions on each one.
What the visits have amounted to.
Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
Whatever you can give goes into the boxes that go through the gates.
